5 Tips for Stellar Drip

June 03, 2022

1. Use quality coffee
2. Buy whole beans
3. Measure up
4. Say NO to tap water
5. Rinse that filter and clean regularly

1. Use quality coffee

That good old tin of Yuban sitting in your freezer does the job but nowadays there’s WAY more options. You don’t have to drop the big bucks and splurge, consider checking out your local roaster or joining a subscription service.

2. Buy whole beans

Pre-ground coffee often loses its magic after just a couple days. Boring! Make sure you’re buying whole beans and grinding them just before brewing, this will ensure a tasty pot of coffee every morning. If pre-ground is the only option, make sure it’s kept in an airtight container to help maintain its deliciousness.

3. Measure up

Drip coffee is more forgiving than other methods as far as precise measurements go. Still, make sure not to overload or skimp—a safe rule of thumb is two healthy tablespoons of coffee per 16oz of water. (That’s about one tablespoon per cup.) Or if you have a scale, use a 1:16 ratio; 1g coffee : 16g of H2O.

4. Say NO to tap!

Opt for filtered water instead. Stay away from tap, spring, or even distilled as these can result in your fabulous cup of joe being bitter and boring. Check out this company called Third Wave Water, they’re pretty rad! Remember, if your water doesn’t taste good, your coffee won’t taste good either!

5. Clean that pot regularly

Make sure you’re cleaning your brewer about once a month. Coffee and calcium buildup can affect the overall taste and speed up the deterioration of your precious coffee maker.
